Amongst The Waves

Pearl Jam foi uma banda que nunca me disse muito até há um par de anos, quando vi o excelente filme "Into The Wild", com uma banda sonora ainda melhor, de Eddie Vedder (vocalista de Pearl Jam). Nessa altura, fiquei com curiosidade em relação a Pearl Jam e resolvi ouvir toda a discografia da banda. Ao contrário da maioria dos fãs da banda, eu gosto mais dos últimos álbuns, mais calmos do que os primeiros.

A canção de hoje, Amongst The Waves, é retirada do último álbum de originais de Pearl Jam, Backspacer, lançado em 2009. Nela, Eddie Vedder (autor da letra) fala utiliza o surf como uma metáfora para a vida. Bastante interessante.

The Brian Setzer Orchestra live In Japan

Há três dias, descobri a "The Brian Setzer Orchestra" num pequeno concerto natalício de encerramento de um programa sobre futebol americano. Gostei muito do que ouvi e fui à pergunta, na internet. Descobri que é uma banda de swing e jump blues, formada em 1990 por Brian Setzer, vocalista da banda Stray Cats.

De há uns anos a esta parte, os média e cinema mainstream descobriram uma profecia Maia que marca o fim do Mundo para o dia de hoje. Eu não tenho paciência para essas referências, máixxx, já que são feitas, também as quero fazer. Afinal, não sou menos do que as outras pessoas. :-D

E a melhor forma que arranjei para brincar com a profecia Maia é com uma canção antiga de R.E.M., chamada... It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine).

Não gosto da banda, mas, já que o mundo acaba hoje, cá vai disto! :-)))

Taegukgi Hwinallimyo

Estreia, neste dia, a "Et'quéta, tip' s'pérm'rcád'" Cinema. Não há quaisquer pretensões críticas. Apenas pretendo falar de filmes de que gosto.

O filme que estreia esta categoria foi uma descoberta muito recente. Há quatro dias, tive a oportunidade de ver o filme coreano Taegukgi Hwinallimyo e foi amor à primeira vista.

É um filme sobre dois irmãos que são forçados a combater na Guerra da Coreia, em 1950. Mostra a guerra como nenhum outro filme (americanos, principalmente) que vi até agora o fez: como um acto brutal e desumano, em que nenhuma das partes em conflito comete actos apenas bons ou apenas maus.

Após ter visto o filme, às 4h da madrugada, perdi o sono, perante o que havia acabado de ver, e fiquei por mais de uma hora a pensar no que havia visto e na guerra, nas várias guerras. Provavelmente, terá sido o filme que mais me marcou até hoje.

O filme é realizado por Kang Je-gyu e tem em Jang Dong-gun (à esquerda, no cartaz) e Won Bin (à direita, no cartaz) os actores principais.

Uma nota: O filme tem cenas de batalha extremamente violentas que poderão chocar as pessoas mais sensíveis.

The Trip - Caronte

The Trip foi uma banda italo-britânica de rock progressivo do início da década de 1970. Nesse curto período, editou quatro álbuns:
- The Trip (1970;
- Caronte (1971);
- Atlantide (1972);
- Time of change (1973).

Em 2010, a banda reuniu-se para actuar ao vivo no festival "Prog Exhibition", realizado em Roma, em 5 e 6 de Novembro. Para isso, contou com os membros originais Joe Vesconti (teclados e vocais), Arvid "Wegg" Andersen (baixo e vocais) - infelizmente, faleceu em Março deste ano - e Furio Chirico (bateria, desde 1972). Para este concerto, juntaram-se aos membros originais Fabrizio Chiarelli (guitarra e vocais ) e Angelo Perini (baixo).

Journeyman

Uma das minhas canções preferidas, Journeyman, de Iron Maiden. É uma canção única na carreira de Maiden, pois não é uma canção de metal. É uma canção acústica sobre um "Viajante" (tradução do título) e é tão bela e leve que parece conseguirmos viajar, se fecharmos os olhos. E, como se já não bastasse, ainda há o refrão fantástico, definidor da liberdade (uma condição cada vez mais ameaçada) de ser viajante e que diz o seguinte: "Eu sei o que quero, eu digo o que quero e ninguém pode tirar-mo".

Sou fã de Iron Maiden, mas já lá vai o tempo em que apenas ouvia Maiden e Heavy Metal. Para demonstrá-lo, a primeira mensagem com uma música deste blog é dedicada à canção They Can't Take That Away From Me, originalmente composta por George e Ira Gershwin e cantada por Fred Astaire, em 1937, no filme Shall We Dance.
A versão deste vídeo, interpretada por Ella Fitzgerald e Louis Armstrong, for gravada em 1956, com o Oscar Peterson Quartet.
